A boat ride from Conca Dei Marini to Amalfi, during one of the best Italian summer holidays of my life, prompted me to paint this particularly textured artwork: it’s an invitation to take a dive and enjoy one of the best pieces of coastline in my home country!

“Aegean” and “Milo” are my tribute to the stunning beauty of the Cyclades Islands in Greece. The contrast between the stark white rocks and the calm blue Aegean waters take centre stage, while the jagged profile of the coast of Milo (the island where the famous statue of Venus De Milo was found) reveals the marriage between nature and time, and suggests the preciousness of an immortal treasure under the sun.

With “Titans” I started incorporating the element of fire in my artworks: inspired by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano on the island of La Palma, I wanted to portray the strong forces of water and the fire, co-existing on the same space, under the umbrella of a big universal force, which is Mother Nature.

“Prometheus”, in Greek mythology, is the Titan god who stole fire from the Gods and gave it to humanity, in the form of knowledge and civilisation. I like to think it was also in the form of love, passion, Art, Science… Every feverish passion that creeps underneath human skin, ready to erupt if given the chance… I think is a gift of Prometheus.

“Prometheus Gold” is a series of 4 artworks branched out of the original “Prometheus” artwork and dedicated to the gifts of Prometheus to humanity.

“Atropos” is another one of my artworks dedicated to the current climate emergency. The title, borrowed from one of the Moirai (Greek goddesses of fate and destiny), suggests the danger of an unalterable and unstoppable fate, visually represented by the melting of the ice cap into a dark night ocean.

On a lighter note, the question “can you find ‘heart’ in a cold person, or in a cold environment?” was the starting point for the creation of “Heart”, where the element of ice takes the entirety of the canvas, melting in a few well defined places.

A SECRET GARDEN

“Revelation [Fireflies]” is the first painting of a new series, which celebrates hidden natural landscapes, luxuriant vegetation and magical night scenes. This artwork is my personal tribute to the atmospheres of Studio Ghibli’s movies.

The quest for capturing the motion of the ocean, not only intended in the physical sense of the waves’ movement, but also as the whole range of emotions that this incredible natural element ignites in us, was the starting point of my whole journey in painting and visual art.

This is a selection of the artworks I’ve dedicated to “the blue that cures the human blues”, the healing power of the waves rolling and crashing, the natural connection between the rhythm of the tide and our heartbeats.

When I painted these artworks I wanted to celebrate the everyday life on small tropical islands, the euphoria of surfing, the calmer pace of the routines, the idea of escaping from the rat race of the city, to discover a simpler and freer way of living.
